National Weather Service Reno NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Generally dry conditions are expected through the remainder of the
week with elevated fire weather concerns today.

* Temperatures return to seasonal averages, then rise to above
  average this weekend.

* Next week, rain and storm chances return, while above average
  temperatures persist for early July.

.DISCUSSION...

Afternoon breezes will amplify today, bringing widespread gusts
of 25-30 mph this afternoon. Localized areas across northern
Washoe County could see gusts to 35 mph. This is resulting from a
weak shortwave that is brushing through the northwestern Nevada
region, especially northern Washoe County. Due to the gusty
breezes and afternoon relative humidity only ranging 10-15% across
northwestern Nevada, elevated fire weather conditions are
expected this afternoon. Take care to prevent a spark today. Some
convection-allowing models are depicting isolated showers may
appear over Mono or Mineral County late this afternoon. Chances
are less than 5%, but there could be a stray shower that blooms
over the Sierra. Keep that in mind if you are out recreating, as
gusty winds may accompany any shower that forms.

Tomorrow, another pleasant summer day is in the works. While
temperatures remain near seasonal averages, typical afternoon
breezes return. Friday into the weekend, we will see a slow, steady
increase in temperatures that will bring the western Nevada valleys
back into the mid to upper 90s. In fact this warm air will remain
through early July. Once we move the calendar into July, we will see
another opportunity for showers and storms to return to the region.
Until then, things will be dry, warm and breezy each afternoon.

.AVIATION...

* VFR conditions overall, with westerly afternoon gusts increasing
to 25 to 30 kts for leeside valley terminals such as
KRNO/KCXP/KMEV. Best chances for gusts during 21z-03z time
    frame.
* Sierra terminals KTVL and KMMH have a less than 5% chance to see
an isolated shower today. If a shower does form, gusty and
erratic winds may materialize in the vicinity. Best chances for
    shower will be 21z-03z. HRICH

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...

* Elevated fire weather conditions today with afternoon gusts
across western Nevada valleys reaching 25-30 mph and relative
humidities spanning 10-15%, with some locations only 5-10%.
Additionally, the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma
has placed the northwestern Nevada area under Elevated Fire
Weather. With fuels continuing to dry and becoming more
receptive to spark, take care to avoid fire starts. HRICH
